How to Listen to a Podcast for Class
Even though this blog is written for a history class, the instructions work well for sociology too.
Remember that Podcasts are a way of learning about ideas and concepts and hearing about research, they are unlikely to be able to be cited in written assessments, so go to the books or journal articles that are being discussed to and use them in your assessment.
Also, it is likely that a sociological imagination will be useful to critically engage with what the podcast is saying. From whose perspective is the podcast from? What is it promoting? How is it framed? Who isn’t speaking or being represented? Is the podcast from a particular ontological perspective? Who sponsors the podcast and does it matter in terms of what they are talking about or who is on it?
